Although there are many triple-A surgeons and hospitals to choose, only a few surgeons are known to USA T-girls, and unfortunately, some of these surgeons are more mediocre than triple-A.
As more well know surgeons begin to receive frequent referrals, they often no longer perform their SRS surgeries themselves but instead "supervise a junior surgeon" who performs the actual SRS procedure. Although this fact is not readily admitted, the "senior surgeon" will collect about 50% of the surgical fee for his supervisory role. Naturally, this raises your SRS surgery's cost substantially. A long waiting list with a substantially higher cost is a good indication that this practice is happening. But, having said that, this practice is not always negative. Sometimes an older, more experienced surgeon may have a number of associates who he has trained and are now highly qualified and experienced surgeons themselves. One has to know the players to predict the outcome of the game.
Equally important when choosing a surgeon, take care to check what hospital will be used. As example, one well known surgeon works out of a hospital with no international certification, few patient rooms have air conditioning, and had been described by one T-girl as a "dump!" While an excellent surgeon himself, the hospital and staff are not acceptable by international standards.
One of the best ways to check on your surgeon is to look at what hospital they will be using. And remember, we are not talking about the hospitals at which they have privileges, but the actual hospital the surgery will be performed. Is the hospital internationally certified? What is the certification? Typically, only the most competent surgeons are allowed to work in the best hospitals.
Another check for your SRS package is determining if you are given the standard 6 days / five nights in hospital, and that the price includes all charges. Do not allow yourself to be nickel and dimed or given substandard service as an alternative.
